Blue Jackets Survive Wild Third Period To Beat The Visiting Blues

Dmitri Voronkov(14,15), Kirill Marchenko(17), Mikael Pyyhtiä(4), Adam Fantilli(8), and Mathieu Olivier(10), provided the offense for the high-powered Blue Jackets, and Elvis Merzļikins stopped 29 of 33 Blues shots in the Columbus win.

This game was pretty ho-hum until the third period. In just under 4 minutes, the two teams scored five goals. They then added another three more goals, with Mathieu Olivier's empty-net goal being the game-ender and final goal of the game. Both teams would wind up scoring four goals in the third period of this wild affair.

Zach Werenski extended his home points streak to 15 games on Saturday night. His streak is the longest home points streak by a defenseman in the NHL in 40 years. With his home points streak, he becomes the ninth different defenseman in league history to post a run of at least that length and the first since Ray Bourque in 1992-93. It's safe to say Zach Werenski is hitting his stride this year. He has 30 points in those 15 home games. Werenski also has the most points in the first 40 games in team history.

Forward Kevin Labanc was a late scratch due to his wife going into labor just before the game.

The Jackets now sit 4th in the Metro with 40 points and sit in a tie with Ottawa and Pittsburgh for the second wildcard.
