Blue Jackets Prospect Involved in Blockbuster WHL Trade

Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Charlie Elick was dealt in a blockbuster deal in the WHL.

Elick was traded from the Brandon Wheat Kings to the Tri-City Americans ahead of the WHL 2025 trade deadline.

The Blue Jackets drafted Elick in the second round, 36th overall, in the 2024 NHL Draft. He has shown good promise in the WHL and has become a very solid defenceman. In 163 career games with the Wheat Kings, he has recorded 47 points.

The Tri-City Americans' GM Bob Tory had this to say about adding Elick to his team:

“We’re excited to add a player like Charlie to our defense corps,” Tory said. “He adds another level of physicality to our lineup and solidifies our top four defensemen. He has the pedigree of being a high NHL draft pick and gives us one of the best defensive groups in the WHL.”

The Brandon Wheat Kings receive Jordan Gavin and Merrek Arpin in return.
