The Blue Jackets Must Figure Out How To Win On The Road

The Columbus Blue Jackets have one more game to play in the 2024 calendar year, and luckily it's at home.

So far during the 24-25 season, it's been a fairly successful season. Absolutely no one would've imagined that the CBJ would be 15-16-6 with 36 points. They're exceeding expectations by a country mile. As of today, they're just two points shy of the second wildcard spot. If the CBJ could turn 6 of the 15 road losses into wins, they'd be firmly in a playoff spot.

But they could be in a much better spot if they could just figure out how to win on the road.

Let's dive into the road stats.

Record - 4-12-3 - 11 Points

Goals Scored - 49 - 2.58 GPG

Goals Allowed - 76 - 4.0 GPG

Power Play Goals Scored- 6 (21 total)

Power Play Opportunities - 50

PP% - 12% (21% total)

Power Play Goals Allowed - 17 (25 total)

Power Play Opportunities By Opponent - 64

PK% - 73.4% (75% total)

Elvis Merzļikins Road Record - 3-6-2 - .885 Save % - 3.00 GAA - 33 Goals Allowed - 10 PP goals allowed

Daniil Tarasov Road Record - 1-5-1 - .841 Save % - 4.73 GAA - 33 Goals Allowed - 5 PP goals allowed

As you can see from the numbers above, the Jackets have been terrible on the road. They have the second-worst road record in the NHL, sitting only behind Nashville who are 3-11-4.

If the Jackets can get it figured out on the road, which they may at some point since hockey is a game of streaks, they could very well stay in the race until late in the season. Luckily the CBJ is one of the best teams in the league at home, or they'd be at the bottom of the league with Chicago and San Jose.

What's Next - The Blue Jackets return home on Tuesday to face the Carolina Hurricanes.
