Blue Jackets Drop Third Straight Game; Ivan Provorov Lost To Injury

The Blue Jackets have been very bad playing in Western Canada for the last 24 years, and last night was no different.

Mathieu Olivier(8) and Damon Severson(6) scored the goals for Columbus in the loss. Although Elvis Merzļikins made more than a few unreal saves, he couldn't make enough to save the day for the CBJ.

The Canucks had two shots after one period, and nine after two. Conversely, the Jackets had 26 shots after two periods. The scoring chances and expected goals were decidedly in the CBJ's favor, but just like every game with lopsided stats, the team who is losing those stats wins a lot. And last night was no different. The Blue Jackets outshot the Canucks 32 to 17 and lost 5-2.

The Jackets led by two after one, but the Canucks tied the game at two after two periods. Early in the third, Pius Suter put the Canucks in front with a point-blank shot. The Jackets would lose the game and their third straight game and gave up 5 unanswered goals to Vancouver.

But the game wasn't the only thing the CBJ lost. In the second period, Ivan Provorov was lost to injury. He fell awkwardly onto the ice and used his hand to brace himself against the boards. He took his glove off and his thumb looked badly injured, as it was bleeding and looked to be broken or dislocated. He was ruled out for the game at the start of the third period. The Jackets will have Jack Johnson available to play on Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jackets are now 11-17-6 all-time in Vancouver.
