Drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft, McLaughlin split time between the San Diego Gulls and Tulsa Oilers (ECHL) this past season. In 29 games with San Diego, McLaughlin collected two assists. With Tulsa, he scored 11 goals and added 14 assists for 25 points in 21 regular season games.

Prior to turning pro at the end of the 2021-22 season, McLaughlin spent four years playing NCAA hockey at the University of Minnesota, collecting 105 points in 142 career games.

As McLaughlin departs the only NHL system he has played in, he will have the opportunity to start anew with the Wolf Pack. While McLaughlin has struggled to find his offensive touch in the AHL so far in his career, he has proven he can contribute at every other level - making it seem unlikely that he doesn't find his way in the AHL eventually.
