Blackhawks Win Over Avalanche Is A Glimpse Into The Future

Are things going well when it comes to the season that the Chicago Blackhawks are having? No. No, they are not. The team is 14-25-2 which is only good for 30 standings points which is currently the lowest mark in the National Hockey League.

With some of the veterans that the management team brought in over the summer, the thought was that there would be some improvement even if that meant still not going to the playoffs.

That hasn't been the case. They've gone backward in a lot of ways. The winning is down, the development for certain people is going in the wrong direction, and they've already played the "firing the coach" card.

With that said, there are a few reasons to continue the optimism. It starts and ends with the young players on the team and in the organization.

Against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night, the Hawks gave us a glimpse into what the future may look like.

Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar each scored goals for Chicago. There is a lot of hope that these two are going to be core guys for a decade or more.

In Bedard's case, the hype of being a generational talent coming out of junior has been a lot to live up to but he has been a very good offensive player. Other parts of his game must improve to be one of those top-ten type guys but at 19, the sky is the limit.

On Nazar's goal, Colton Dach collected an assist which is his first career NHL point. The two of them seem to play well together going back to their time with the Rockford IceHogs.

"It feels like every game is his next best game. It's so fun to watch." Connor Bedard said on Nazar. "The amount of skill and poise he has, to see him put one in, I'm sure he's going to go on a roll now."

Bedard is a hockey fan. He keeps up with what's going on around the league, other leagues, and within the organization. That includes major junior, college, and overseas. He's been waiting to see another young fellow join him for a while now.

"Yeah, it's more his first point." Frank Nazar said on the fact that Colton Dach assisted on his first goal of the season. "I'm glad to be a part of that".

This duo seems to be able to work well at the NHL level. They also enjoy each other off the ice. In this win over Colorado, they played with Teuvo Teravainen who is a veteran in this league and helps bring out the best in them.

"I thought they had a good game today" Interim head coach Anders Sorensen said of this line with Dach and Nazar. "I thought Teuvo did a real great job of balancing that line out. He's been around and he knows what it takes."

Sorensen commenting on Teuvo helping the young kids out must make Kyle Davidson feel good. He brought in veterans to do stuff like this.

"Even on the bench, I heard him talking to them quite a bit and just helping them out, little positioning stuff, so it was really good." Sorensen continued when talking about Teravainen helping out Dach and Nazar.

It is going to be a long time before we see these little things translate into enough wins to be a playoff team. However, this game against Colorado is like looking into a crystal ball and seeing what the Hawks could look like with kids like Bedard, Dach, and Nazar turning into a great core.
