Blackhawks Send Wyatt Kaiser To AHL IceHogs
It's been a busy day of transactions for the Chicago Blackhawks. It started with the call-up of Ethan Del Mastro. He will make his season debut after spending the entire year up to this point with the AHL's Rockford IceHogs.
Not long after that, the team announced that they had signed AJ Spellacy to his entry-level contract. They weren't done there.
This afternoon, they sent Wyatt Kaiser back to the IceHogs. This came after he participated in practice during the day.
Chicago had eight defensemen on the roster with the addition of Del Mastro which is unheard of in the NHL. Most teams dress six and carry seven. Craig Smith (a forward) going on the IR didn't feel like the only move they'd make in response to this.
Kaiser being the guy that gets demoted doesn't seem fair but it's the reality of the situation for most young players that aren't superstars. He has played better than guys like TJ Brodie and Alec Martinez up to this point but those are veterans that the team signed for more money.
Rockford won't be the worst thing for the young defenseman as he will go there and be surrounded by the good players down there all developing together. It won't be long before Kaiser is back in the NHL.
