Which Blackhawks Are Fantasy Hockey Relevant in 2025

The 2024-25 season has not been great for the Chicago Blackhawks, and thus, the team's fantasy relevance hasn't been great either. You always want to roster players from your favourite team, especially when they are doing well, but it's tough when a team is performing like the Blackhawks this season.

While every team in the NHL has somebody worth rostering, the Blackhawks do have a pair of must-owns, a handful of streaming options for the rest of the season, some bangers for if you need some grit and defensive stats, as well as a number of players I recommend you don't go near.

Must Own Blackhawks

The list is short for must-own Blackhawks in fantasy for the rest of the season. This means that both Connor Bedard and Seth Jones are likely already rostered by someone, if not you, in your league(s).

Like everybody except a very select few from the Blackhawks, Bedard was underperforming based on expectations at the start of the season. After the head coaching change, he really elevated his game. The 19-year-old has five goals and 15 points in the last 13 games while taking 30 shots on goal. Five points have come on the power play over that span and he has made nine hits as well. Bedard is a superstar in the making and he should continue to produce offensively as he's currently on a six-game point streak (3 goals, 8 points).

Jones missed a bunch of time with an injury, but has played well when he has been in the lineup. His injury and time missed might have freed him up in your league, so it is a good time to take advantage as soon as possible. Jones is on the top power play and penalty kill while not only averaging over a hit per game, but right around two shots and blocks per game as well. He has three goals, 13 points, and five power-play points in 23 games.

Blackhawks Streamers

The Blackhawks have had their moments, but overall haven't played well. When the team does have a good little stretch of games, that's when these streamer options have been the best to grab.

Blackhawks who have been relevant at times this season as a streamer include Teuvo Teravainen, Alex Vlasic, Tyler Bertuzzi, Arvid Soderblom, Ryan Donato, and Taylor Hall.

Teravainen was very good at the start of the season and then disappeared for a good amount of time. He resurfaced a couple of weeks ago with a four-game stretch in which he recorded two or more points in every game for a total of one goal and 10 points.

Teravainen has two points in his last three games and is on the top power-play unit, but is playing with the rookies Frank Nazar and Colton Dach right now at 5-on-5, not on the top line with Bedard. He might be worth a look right at the moment, but history tells us he will have a great stretch of games again this season.

Vlasic was best when he served as the number one defenseman while Jones was out. He hasn't disappeared since Jones' return, but he doesn't have the same responsibility and opportunity. Vlasic was bumped down from the top power-play unit and is on the second pairing. He has two goals and 17 points in 39 games, but has one point in his last eight. He will still shoot, hit, and block shots, but that's about it at the moment. He isn't a good streaming option right now, but he has proven he can be if Jones goes out again.

Bertuzzi hasn't been great this season having 13 goals and 20 points in 39 games. Where he does gain value is through his style of play that gets him penalty minutes. It isn't that common to find someone who can score or put up points as well as find himself in the penalty box. Bertuzzi will hit a little bit, but if he's getting in trouble, that is when to stream him.

Soderblom has performed for the most part this season. A .910 SV% is very respectable for a backup/1b goalie on the worst team in the league, especially since it is a huge turnaround season for him. He has six wins in 15 starts, but Petr Mrazek isn't known for staying healthy all season long. Last time the veteran went out, Soderblom stepped up and won four out of five games with a .900+ SV% in all of the wins. He has played in 10 of the last 13 games for Chicago. If the Blackhawks play some bottom-feeders, he is still worth looking at.

Donato has been good all season. He has wildly exceeded expectations and has 11 goals and 22 points in 37 games. He gets some power-play time, shoots just slightly less than Bedard, and is second on the team in hits. His numbers are a little more spread out over the season as opposed to the rest of the Blackhawks, but he does have assists in back-to-back games to go along with eight shots and seven hits. If you're in a deep league, he's not a bad option right now.

Hall is only worth a look immediately before he falls off again. The veteran has not played great this season with just eight goals and 21 points in 38 games, but has one goal and seven points in his last six games. He's not on the top power-play unit and doesn't do a ton more for fantasy hockey other than shoot, but if he's hot, a player like that is always worth adding until he slows down.

For Banger Leagues

The Blackhawks have a few pure bangers who could help you out for a while or just for one night. Connor Murphy, Nick Foligno, Donato again, and potentially Colton Dach could all get you the hits you need, while adding a little extra depending on the player.

Murphy is third on the team in hits (70), leads the Blackhawks in blocks (93), and has 38 penalty minutes. While he's day-to-day, he shouldn't be out long.

Foligno is a verbal leader and leads by example. He is always trying to pull the team into the fight, even though it hasn't exactly worked with the lack of success the Blackhawks have had this season. Regardless, he isn't going to stop as he leads the team in hits (105), fights here and there, and has 10 goals and 17 points this season.

I explained Donato's impressive season where he has done everything asked of him and more, but in Dach's debut, he had five shots and five hits. It remains to be seen if that sort of production in more limited playing time can keep up, but it's promising.

Irrelevant Blackhawks for Fantasy

As for the rest of the team that includes Jason Dickinson, Pat Maroon, Craig Smith, Wyatt Kaiser, Ilya Mikheyev, Lukas Reichel, T.J. Brodie, Nolan Allan, Philipp Kurashev, Alec Martinez, Louis Crevier, and Frank Nazar, none of them are worth even streaming for fantasy hockey unless something drastically changes and someone surprises us.
