Blackhawks Blown Out Again, Lose Winter Classic 6-2
The Chicago Blackhawks came into the NHL Winter Classic losers of four straight games but they were in the first two. Both of those games came before the holiday pause.
Following the three-day break, they have looked like the worst team in the league that their record suggests they are.
Their first game back was a 6-2 loss at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres. They followed that up with a Sunday night 5-1 loss to the Dallas Stars.
Now, they have been blown out in three straight games (and have lost five in a row) after losing the Winter Classic to the St. Louis Blues.
From the moment the puck was dropped at this marquee NHL event, the Blues were the better team.
After allowing the Blues to take a 2-0 lead, Taylor Hall scored a power-play goal to get them back within one. At that point, there was life but they never were able to take advantage.

They let any good vibes completely slip away as the Blues went on to score three unanswered goals from there.
Down 5-1, the Hawks did give the Wrigley Field crowd one more reason to cheer as Tyler Bertuzzi scored his 12th of the season. Connor Bedard collected an assist on the goal so he was able to get on the board in the big game too.

Now, the Hawks are 0-5 in Winter Classic games. They are also just 1-6 in general outdoor NHL events. What is the reason for this? That much is unclear. They were a good team for a lot of those but they aren't so much right now.
This loss was tough for Chicago. In front of a sold-out crowd at Wrigley Field, they played horribly and never really had a chance to win. This one is not going to go over well in the clubhouse, especially given what has transpired since the holiday break.
