Blackburn Rovers sign former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Soper
Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Poppy Soper on a free transfer.
The Lancashire side announced news of the deal via a post on their official club X account this evening.
The 22-year-old joins Blackburn Rovers after leaving former club Charlton Athletic at the end of last season. Soper spent two seasons with the South East Londoners having joined the club in summer 2022. Soper was out of favour at The Valley last season and she was sent out on loan to third tier side Ipswich Town. The keeper made 12 appearances for The Tractor Girls in all competitions.
Soper spent her early years on the books of Plymouth Argyle. She was spotted by former Chelsea manager Emma Hayes whilst representing The Pilgrims and was given the opportunity to sign dual-registration terms with the Barclays Women’s Super League giants. Soper didn’t feature for Chelsea, however, she got the opportunity to work alongside some of the world’s best goalkeepers.
On the international stage, Soper has been in and around the Wales senior squad. She is still awaiting her debut for The Red Dragons.
Soper becomes Blackburn Rovers’ eighth signing of the summer transfer window. She will compete with Alex Brooks for the team’s number one jersey this season.
