Sacha Tavolieri has revealed that RWDM striker Makhtar Gueye is set for a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers. The Senegalese forward had been the subject of interest from Standard Liege, but their offer of a season loan with a purchase option was rejected by RWDM. The Brussels club, relegated from the Pro League last season, wanted a permanent solution this summer for the forward. The previous fee that RWDM had been looking for was around €2m, something which Standard could not afford this summer, which is why they wanted to delay paying the full transfer fee until next summer.

Gueye joined RWDM from Oostende last season and scored 11 goals in 35 games. The 26-year-old Senegalese forward has a contract with the Brussels club until 2026. the 26-year-old joined Oostende back in the summer of 2020. In a handful of seasons with the club he played 71 games and scored 25 goals.

If Gueye joins Blackburn, he will follow fellow RWDM player Ilay Camara to the Championship. The defender is set to join Preston North End and was another target of Standard Liege this summer.
