Birmingham City have completed the signing of former Charlton Athletic defender Rebecca McKenna on a free transfer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this evening.

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland international full-back joins the Blues upon the expiry of her contract with former club Charlton Athletic. She has signed a two-year deal at St Andrew’s.

McKenna has spent the last three years playing her football in the Barclays Women’s Championship. After starting out across the water in Northern Ireland, she joined Lewes in summer 2021 before moving to Charlton Athletic two years’ later. McKenna has 62 Barclays Women’s Championship appearances under her belt.

The player is continuing to grow with every season and she will now enjoy the next step of her development in the Midlands with Birmingham City.

After joining the Blues, McKenna said “I want to get in and get going now. I am excited to get to know the girls. For the long term, this Club is what it’s about.

“I had a chat with Amy [Merricks] and seeing where they want to take this Club is what drew me in. I’ve been coached by her for a brief spell, but knowing the impact she had in such a short amount of time says a lot about her as a coach.”

McKenna becomes Birmingham City’s second signing of the summer transfer window
