Bills now have 'major concerns' about Sammy Watkins and his foot

Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins has just six catches for 63 yards this season. And now we really don’t know when he’ll add to that total.

Watkins is out for this Sunday’s game at the New England Patriots, the second straight game he’ll miss with a foot injury. And even worse, Bills coach Rex Ryan said there’s “major concern” about Watkins missing a second straight game.

Watkins played through pain the first two games, and it clearly affected him. Even after struggling in Week 1, the Bills played him on short rest in a Thursday night game in Week 2. He hasn’t played since. Last week there was a report that his foot got stepped on in practice, and that apparently set him back.

The Bills don’t have great receiver depth so missing Watkins is a huge blow. Watkins had 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns last season and was a big reason Tyrod Taylor had a nice breakout season. Taylor is struggling a bit this season without Watkins, and that’s no coincidence.

The Bills are now publicly concerned about Watkins, and that’s not great news for them bouncing back from a 1-2 start.
