The biggest talking points from the Bundesliga Konferenz
After Borussia Dortmund’s thrilling 4-2 comeback win against Ruhr rivals Bochum in the Bundesliga’s Friday night fixture, chaos resumed in Saturday’s games with 14 goals across five matchdays in the Konferenz.
In one game, Heidenheim secured a 2-0 win against Mainz, but here’s three talking points from the remaining fixtures ahead of the Topspiel between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.
Benjamin Šeško off the mark for the season
After enjoying an excellent end to last season which saw Benjamin Šeško score in seven consecutive Bundesliga games, the Slovenian has somewhat struggled this campaign but has now found his scoring boots. A brace against Augsburg on Saturday afternoon is the forward’s first Bundesliga goals of the season, and his assist for Xavi Simons means Šeško has been involved in three goals in a Bundesliga game for the first time in his career.
St. Pauli record first Bundesliga win since 2011
St. Pauli picked up an incredible point against RB Leipzig last weekend, their first of the season but the newly-promoted Bundesliga side went one further this matchday. An incredible 3-0 win at Freiburg saw the Hamburg-based club win their first game in the top flight since 2011. Elias Saad scored a brace, which means the 24-year-old has now scored in the fifth, fourth, second and first tier of German football. He also assisted for Oladapo Afolayan.
Late goals galore
With Stuttgart’s Champions League game against Sparta Prague on Tuesday in mind, Sebastian Hoeneß opted to give Deniz Undav a rest. But chasing a goal, the 28-year-old was introduced in the final 30 minutes, and would go on to score a goal in the seventh minute of added time, securing a point for Stuttgart against Wolfsburg. Undav has now scored six goals in his last five games the Swabian club, and Germany.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Tomáš Čvančara scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to secure a win for Gerardo Seoane’s Borussia Mönchengladbach against Union Berlin, in just their second win in the Bundesliga this season.
