Bengals reporter had high praise for Bears rookie Caleb Williams in joint practice

The Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals held a joint practice Thursday at Halas Hall, which comes ahead of their preseason game on Saturday. While the practice was closed to the public, due to weather concerns, there were plenty of updates that came out of the workout. That included Chicago's defense dominating Joe Burrow and Cincinnati's offense.

On offense, rookie quarterback Caleb Williams had an impressive showing on Thursday after a rough start. Williams was intercepted by Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt on his first pass during 7-on-7 drills. But he quickly bounced back with touchdown passes to receivers Keenan Allen and DJ Moore, as well as a nice slant to rookie receiver Rome Odunze.

While the Chicago media has been impressed with Williams this summer, it hits different when that praise is coming from an outside source -- in this case, Bengals reporter Jeremy Rauch, who sang Williams' praises after Thursday's practice.

“I could not have been more impressed with how Caleb Williams looked," Rauch said. "And you look at his receiving corps and you’re reminded of who they could be this year with Rome Odunze, the rookie, Keenan Allen, DJ Moore. Allen and Moore gave the Bengal DBs trouble all day long.”

Rauch also praised Chicago's defense, which won the day. They intercepted Burrow three times and cornerback Jaylon Johnson was an unstoppable force in the secondary. Williams has the advantage of going against what's looking to be a top NFL defense every day in practice, which will only help him improve.

Bears fans will get another glimpse at Williams on Saturday, where he's expected to make his Soldier Field debut against the Bengals in this third preseason game. If it's similar to last week, we should see Williams and the starters for a quarter, where the No. 1 pick will get more valuable reps and chances to flash more of what we can expect in the regular season.
