Ben Chilwell receives surprising message from unlikely source and it’s totally unexpected
Ben Chilwell has been handed an unexpected lifeline after a message from England boss Thomas Tuchel according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
It’s been a nightmare season for Chilwell, who has played just 45 minutes of football against Barrow in the Carabao Cup.
Enzo Maresca made it clear to the left back he wasn’t part of the plans going forward in pre-season, but a summer exit failed to materialise, although he’s still been training with the first team.
Tuchel’s surprise message to Chilwell
With the January window into the final two weeks, Chilwell still hasn’t found a move and other than a few initial enquiries there’s said to be very little interest in his services.
Everton are said to be keen on a possible move for the 28-year-old, although his wages are likely to provide a stumbling block in any potential move.
Chilwell’s career is very much at a cross roads and he desperately needs a move to start playing regular football again, and he simply can’t afford to have a season on the sidelines.
The current situation is not good for all parties and Chelsea are currently shelling out a large amount of money on a player who’s contributing nothing and depreciating in value.
However, Chilwell has been handed a potential boost from an unlikely source with Jacobs reporting he’s still in England’s plans despite a lack of match action.
“Chilwell is keen for minutes and has been told by Thomas Tuchel he is still in his England plans despite not being part of Enzo Maresca’s thinking this season,” he wrote in his GIVEMESPORT column.

It’s a real surprise to hear that, but England aren’t blessed with options at left back, and Tuchel knows first hand what Chilwell can do, with the pair winning the Champions League together in 2021.
That message could be the motivation Chilwell needs to sort a move and get playing regularly, even if that means playing for a lesser club than he might want to.
