Yahoo Sports Bellator 140 Results: Koreshkov Takes the Belt; Daley, Ward and Page Light Up the Night
Bellator 140 at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut on Friday night was all about the welterweights. Most of those welterweights delivered exciting finishes, but the one fight that promised fireworks coming in didn’t play out as anyone expected.
Both known for their explosive knockout power, neither Douglas Lima nor Andrey Koreshkov delivered the knockout bomb that several of the night’s other victors did before them.
While Lima and Koreshkov traded blows throughout the fight, it was the Russian that took control from the opening bell. He outgunned Lima on the feet, pressing the action and out-landing him about four-to-one, but what really surprised everyone was his takedowns.
In his previous nine Bellator fights combined, Koreshkov had totaled just four takedowns. But round after round, Koreshkov scored numerous takedowns on Lima. He didn’t do a lot on the canvas, but he controlled the action both on the floor and on the feet.
Lima looked out of sorts from the opening bell, perhaps due to having been out of action for more than a year due to injuries and surgeries.
At the end of the night, it was clear that Koreshkov would take Lima’s belt. The judges awarded him a unanimous decision.

“It’s not my belt, it’s our belt, our team’s belt,” said Koreshkov after the fight. “I respect everyone who respects me, so I just with everyone good luck to get close to this belt.”
In a night that was not short in knockouts, the one man from which everyone expected a knockout… delivered.
Dennis Olson lasted a lot longer than most pundits predicted, not backing down from Paul Daley‘s power, and taking the fight to the mat when possible and attacking with submissions. Though he was aggressive, Olson never really had Daley in danger.
“I was pretty comfortable in his guard, so I thought if I keep the pressure on him I could stop it,” said the British knockout artist.
Shortly into the second round, Daley found his groove. He caught an Olson kick and forced him to the canvas, where Daley swung away with heavy, arcing punches, most of which found their mark.
Olson briefly regained his feet, but several more punches from Daley sent him down again, back to the cage. A couple more hard blows and it was all over.
“I'm a perfectionist. I still wasn't completely happy,” said Daley after the fight, but gave Olson his due. “When anybody fights me, they always fight their best. He was good.”
Newly signed UFC veteran Josh Koscheck was cageside for Daley's fight, and the promotion hasn't been shy about playing off the beef between the two. Daley cheap shotted Koscheck from behind after the bell in their fight at UFC 113. It appears they are on a collision course for a rematch.

“I still hate that hair. I still hate him,” Daley said before leaving the cage. “And we're going to settle it in this Bellator cage.”
Brennan Ward always comes out firing, and he certainly did against Roger Carroll. But it wasn't until Carroll landed a low-blow that Ward decided he'd had enough. After taking a minute to recover from the low-blow, Ward landed nearly everything he threw at Carroll and had him backing up, but it was a single right hand that turned out the lights just over two minutes into the fight.
“I knew it was a matter of time,” said Ward after the fight. “That was pretty vicious. I can't help but throw bombs. I'm a bomber baby.”
Michael Page did Ward one better, also using a single right hand punch to take out Rudy Bears just 65 seconds into the fight.
Chris Honeycutt and Paul Bradley kicked off the main card on Spike, but just as the fight was heating up an accidental clash of heads stopped the fight. Bradley suffered a cut to his scalp because of the clash of heads that was too deep to allow the fight to continue. The bout was waved off and ruled a no contest.
