Behind The Gear: Capitals' Pierre-Luc Dubois Shares The Story Behind His Tinted Visor

ARLINGTON, V.A. — Growing up, Pierre-Luc Dubois wanted to be just like current Washington Capitals teammate Alex Ovechkin. And now, the two share the same type of gear: the iconic tinted visor.

Dubois is one of the handful of players in the league currently wearing the tinted visor, and though Ovechkin's influence didn't play a role in his choice of face protection, another NHL star did: Mark Scheifele.

It all started back when Dubois was playing with the Winnipeg Jets, and the team had quite a bit of time to kill at a practice.

"We were trying guys' gear out, and I tried Mark Scheifele's helmet on and the guys said I looked good with the tinted visor," Dubois laughed.

Naturally, Dubois asked for a tinted visor for practice, and after a strong skate, he decided to try it for a game they had later that night. He scored in that game, and from there, the visor stuck.

"Since then, I've kept it," Dubois smiled.

The Capitals center also pointed out that it's beneficial for players who have had a concussion, and though he doesn't struggle with any concussion-like symptoms, it's still good to have.
