Bedard Joins Elites After Quick Climb to 100 Points
Connor Bedard has reached 100 career points while still being a teenager and has joined a group of elite players as the only ones to have done that in the history of the NHL.
Bedard became just the 24th player to ever record 100 points before turning 20 years old. Given his birthday is in July, the 19-year-old still has the rest of the season to pad his totals as a teenager in the NHL.
He required the fewest games to reach 100 points as a teenager since Sidney Crosby in 2005-06 as the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins accomplished that in just 80 games. It took Bedard 112 games, but the Chicago Blackhawks are very bad this season and were right at the bottom of the league last season as well.
In the expansion era (since 1967-69), it took Bedard the 11th fewest games to reach 100 points in his career as a teenager. Players to do it quicker include:
Wayne Gretzky (61 games played)
Mario Lemieux (73 GP)
Dale Hawerchuk (74 GP)
Sidney Crosby (80 GP)
Ron Francis (85 GP)
Steve Yzerman (89 GP)
Jimmy Carson (96 GP)
Sylvain Turgeon (99 GP)
Phil Housley (106 GP)
Brian Bellows (108 GP)
Bedard continues to carry the 32nd ranked Blackhawks offensively as last year's Calder Trophy winner has 12 goals and 39 points in 44 games. The next 100 for Bedard is going to be a lot faster and I presume it will come sometime next season.
