'It's all because of him' - Liverpool star Curtis Jones clarifies controversial Jurgen Klopp comments

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has explained what he meant after he hinted he would enjoy his football more under Arne Slot than he did with Jurgen Klopp.

Last week the 23-year-old was asked about the changes with Slot being only the second-ever manager he has worked under during his time at Liverpool.

His comments came across as a bit of a shock as he claimed he had never been happier during his time at the club even though Klopp brought him into the senior set-up back in 2019.

JONES ADMITS HE OWES KLOPP A LOT

After the 2-1 win against Arsenal with goals from Mo Salah and Fabio Carvalho, Jones spoke to Redmen TV.

He said: “The principles are always the same; we want to work hard, press, dominate teams.

“That’s what I think came across a little bit wrong, I’d like to say now on this, I’ve seen things that it seemed like I was disrespectful in a way.

“But Jurgen knows I’d never be that kid. He knows how much I love him, that I love all of his staff.

“It was just me saying that how I’m going to play now is a little bit of a change. He’s given me the platform and belief in myself to know I’m a kid who can step up as well, I’m not just a kid who’s a squad lad, I can really be counted on.”

The midfield academy graduate continued, as he said: “How many games have I played and it’s all because of him.

“There was times when I was being told he needs to go out on loan or he might need to leave the club and he was the man who stuck there the whole time.

“I didn’t mean any harm and he knows how much love I’ve got for him and the whole of his staff.”

Jones went off injured in Liverpool’s first friendly against Real Betis but thankfully was fit enough to start against Arsenal. He is expected to be involved again in the next game with Manchester United.
