Bears WR Tyler Scott 'hungry and eager' for opportunity in Week 2

The Chicago Bears pulled off a comeback win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, but there was one notable inactive for last Sunday's game: Receiver Tyler Scott, who cemented his role as WR4 on offense.

Scott was made aware that he would be a healthy scratch for the season opener (after starting all 17 games in his rookie season), although he wasn't expecting it. This year's receiver room is certainly loaded following the new additions of Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze.

With Odunze suffering a Grade 1 MCL sprain, it opens the door for Scott to see action in Sunday night's game against the Houston Texans.

"Tyler Scott, just opportunity," coach Matt Eberflus said. "You're looking for an opportunity, a crack in the door, because it was a strong receiving group that we feel that we have this year. And again, we've still got to prove it, but I would say opportunity. When that door opens, man, you take your opportunity and run with it."

Odunze's injury isn't considered to be serious, although the expectation is the Bears will rest him for Sunday night rather than rush him back. With Allen also banged up with a heel injury, Scott could see ample opportunities against the Texans, who have a secondary that gave up several explosive plays in their Week 1 opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

"I'm excited for this week," Scott said. "I'm hungry and eager, especially when you're sitting on the sideline Game 1 and wishing you could be out there. I definitely have a little bit more of a chip on my shoulder."

Scott, a former fourth-round pick by Chicago, is entering his second NFL season, where he feels more comfortable after a year of experience under his belt.

"It's the same thing this week — same film study, preparation, not letting the moment get too big," Scott said. "I got a year under my belt — played all 17 games last year, so I'm a lot more comfortable. Probably last year at this moment, I would've been a lot more stressed out and tense, all in my playbook and feeling a little more nervous. But I'm a lot more relaxed this year and have a better mindset."
