Bears WR Rome Odunze week-to-week with MCL sprain
Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze suffered an MCL sprain in Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans. Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz was first with the news.
It's a grade 1 MCL sprain for Odunze, who is considered week-to-week with the injury. All things considered, this is the best case scenario for Odunze, who shouldn't miss significant time. But it certainly makes him doubtful for Sunday night's contest against the Houston Texans.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus informed the media of Odunze's injury earlier on Monday, but he was unclear when the injury took place but noted it was a blocking play. It appeared to have happened on a screen to Velus Jones Jr. late in the fourth quarter, where Odunze was rolled up on by the third-year veteran. While Odunze returned to the game, he exited the field one play later, where he was noticeably limping to the sideline.
The loss of Odunze, who had one catch for 11 yards in his debut, is a rough one for this Bears offense. But it's also concerning given the uncertain status of veteran receiver Keenan Allen. He appeared to reaggravate his heel injury in the second half of Sunday's win. But DJ Moore didn't sound too worried about Allen's injury status Monday morning, where he said he thinks he's "fine" while jokingly noting that "he's just an old man."
If Allen and Odunze can't go, there are depth concerns behind DJ Moore, in a receiver room that features Tyler Scott, DeAndre Carter and Jones.
