Bears vs. Rams: Stars of the game after Week 4 win

The Chicago Bears defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 24-18, Sunday at Soldier Field. The Week 4 victory was an important one when it comes to the landscape of the 2024 season for Chicago. Climbing back to 2-2 instead of starting 1-3 is big.

It wasn't an encouraging start for Chicago as the first half was mostly spent trying to figure out some consistency on offense. By the time the second half rolled around, they had it figured out a little more. On defense, they did what they have done all season to this point. That is stopping the other team from getting things out of control before the offense starts to click.

There were plenty of standout performances from Sunday's win. These are the three stars of the game:

Third Star of the Game: QB Caleb Williams

Statline: 17-of-23, 157 passing yards, 1 TD, 0 INT; 5 rushes, 12 yards

Williams had his best game as a pro in this one. He didn't throw for nearly 400 yards like last week, but he did more things that good quarterbacks do to win football games. He protected the football, threw a touchdown pass, led multiple touchdown drives, and did what he needed to do for the Bears the win.

Williams took a half to get going in the game, but when he did, he was magnificent. If the rest of the season were to feature Williams at the level he was at in the second half of this win over the Rams (or something close to it), the Bears would have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs in the NFL.

Whether it was him committing zero turnovers, making incredible scrambles to get out of sacks, or producing points for the Bears, Williams had a great day that he should be proud of.

Second Star of the Game: S Jaquan Brisker

Statline: 12 total tackles, 1.0 sack, 1 interception

The Bears had a lot of incredible players show up big on defense. However, safety Jaquan Brisker was the standout player who helped seal the victory for his team. In addition to his 12 tackles and one sack, he made the interception in the fourth quarter that ended it. Quarterback Matthew Stafford was trying to lead a game-winning drive for the Rams, which was picked off by Brisker and the Bears walked away with the much-needed win.

Stafford has been incredible during his career at game-winning drives. Brisker's play kept one of the best from doing it again. He made it where a great defensive performance or good game for Williams was worth it. It's not like that was the only time that Brisker was noticeable either. He was their leading tackler and made a difference on multiple occasions. If Brisker has numbers like this all season long, the Bears will continue having one of the best safeties in the NFL.

First Star of the Game: RB D'Andre Swift

Statline: 15 carries, 93 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 7 receptions, 72 receiving yards

Running back D'Andre Swift took a lot of heat for the way that he played through the first three weeks of the season. The Bears spent a lot of money to bring him in, and nobody felt as if he was worth it early on as he averaged 1.8 yards per carry. On Sunday against the Rams, however, he showed exactly what he can do when he's on his game. Totaling 165 scrimmage yards shows just how dominant he can be in the run and pass game. His ability to be a duel-threat back makes him an incredible weapon for Williams, and the Bears saw him do that in this win. Without him, the offense wouldn't have the success that they had.

Having a good back opens up the passing game and it is even better when he could go out and make a catch himself. It makes total sense that Swift's best game so far is Williams' best as well. His big 36-yard touchdown was the highlight of the game for the team as a whole. It extended the Bears' lead with some insurance and it proved to be big in the end. Swift isn't going to have that many total yards every week, but he needs to be a big part of the offense if they are going to succeed. For this game, he is clearly the first star.
