Bears vs. Rams: 10 crazy stats following Week 4 win

The Chicago Bears (2-2) got back into the win column with a 24-18 victory over the Los Angeles Rams (1-3) in Week 4.

It was a balanced effort from the offense that took a while to set in, but once they did, running back D'Andre Swift produced the best game of his young season, and quarterback Caleb Williams took care of the ball, adding to his touchdown total but not adding to his interception total.

With a much more balanced and productive offense, on top of a continuous stellar defense, there were plenty of crazy stats that emerged from the game. Here's a look at 10 of the most notable stats to come out of the Week 4 win for the Bears.

1. The Bears have scored just 3 points in the first quarter this season

Hampered again by pre-snap penalties, Chicago's offense can't seem to get it going in the first quarter. Both times the Bears have played at home, they've scored 24 points, their season high so far, but in three games they've failed to score any points in the first quarter. If they're able to get it going earlier, there's no telling what the offense could do for all four quarters.

2. Marcedes Lewis made history playing in a record 272 games

With his 272nd career game at tight end, Marcedes Lewis set the NFL record for most games by a player at his position, surpassing long-time Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. After his incredibly impressive feat and a Bears win, head coach Matt Eberflus awarded Lewis. with a game ball and Lewis delivered a speech to the entire locker room. Despite not getting the same amount of targets, catches, yards, or touchdowns he was used to earlier in his career, the 40-year old Lewis is still a valuable asset to the locker room and as a blocking tight end in the run game.

3. D'Andre Swift is first Bears running back with 70-plus rushing and 70-plus receiving yards in a game since 2015

Part of the inconsistency for the Bears' offense was the lack of production from Swift in the first three games. Signed in free-agency to be their workhorse back both as a runner and pass catcher, Swift got off to an atrocious start but changed it in a big way against Los Angeles. Becoming the first running back in nine years to eclipse 70 yards rushing and 70 yards receiving, Swift proved to be a valuable asset for the offense and his production certainly helped carried the team to victory.

4. Caleb Williams becomes first rookie QB selected No. 1 overall to win his first two career home starts

Although he didn't have the best home debut in NFL history, it was statistically horrible Caleb Williams has gotten the job done at Solider Field. Becoming the first No. 1 QB pick to win his first two home games shows the challenge that rookies face, even on their own field. Williams definitely needs to thank his defense for carrying majority of the load, but he looked significantly better in Week 4's home win compared to Week 1.

5. The Bears have won seven straight home games, which is the current longest streak in the NFL

Dating back to the 2023 regular season, the Bears have been on fire at home. It's been nearly a year (Oct. 15, 2023 against the Vikings) since the Bears lost at home, but there's another key point to their success at home as well. In their seven-game home winning streak, the Bears have not given up more than 17 total points to any of their seven opponents. Not only are they getting wins at home, their defense is standing strong in front of the home crowd that surely appreciates the effort.

6. Caleb Williams completed 73.9% of his passes, which is the third-best for a Bears rookie QB in a game since 1970

After throwing 52 passes in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3, the Bears dialed it back and had Williams throw just 23 passes. Completing just under 74% of the passes shows that he's finding the open receiver more, and not forcing throws down the field. There were quite a few check down passes from Williams, which shows the growth instead of him chasing the big play, he's reading the defense and finding the smart play.

7. Bears defense held the Rams to just one touchdown (and had two turnovers) in four trips to the red zone

As mentioned previously, the Bears defense has been stout at home, and that hasn't changed in 2024. Not only did they make life hard on the Rams on Sunday, they've been taking the ball away consistently through four games. With eight forced turnovers in four games, there are many defenses who wish to average two takeaways per game. The defense continues to show they are at an elite level, and they're just waiting for the offense to catch up.

8. Tory Taylor averaged 55.4 yards per punt, which is the 10th-highest average in a game in franchise history

The simple-minded football fan may have criticized and questioned the Bears' selection of punter Tory Taylor in the fourth-round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but he silenced the critics in a big way on Sunday. Already in the franchise's top-10 for punting average, Taylor put on an incredible performance when called upon, punting five times for 277 yards, including three inside the 20-yard line, and one touchback. The biggest play from Taylor came a 66-yard punt late in the fourth quarter that pinned the Rams deep in their own territory. Calling on your punter means the offense sputtered, but the game of field position is one that Taylor will be very much a weapon for.

9. Caleb Williams completed 8-of-9 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown when blitzed vs. Rams. Williams also had a 124.5 passer rating under pressure

What pressure? The Bears offensive line has to continue to improve throughout the season, but Caleb Williams showed he can adjust to defensive pressure. Whether it was play-calling, or Williams' ability to get the ball out, the bottom line is he succeed when the Rams brought the blitz and put him under pressure. This capability will help the Bears find more openings and opportunities for their offense and will make a defense think twice before bringing the house against the rookie quarterback.

10. The Bears defense has held their last 10 opponents to 21 points or fewer, which is the longest active streak in the NFL

It's been said multiple times already, but the Bears defense has been on fire, showing Matt Eberflus has his unit firing on all cylinders. Holding opponents to under 21 points or less in their last 10 games, and nine of those 10 under their team average. Nothing is coming easy against this Bears' defense. They're proving to be a defense that can not only carry their team to victory, but being very hard to score against, and if the offense can follow the success of the defense, there should be plenty more wins in the Bears' future.
