Bears vs. Jaguars: 8 things to know heading into Week 6 game

The Chicago Bears (3-2) will battle the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4) in Week 6, where they'll be looking to extend their winning streak to three games.

Chicago is coming off a 36-10 blowout win over the Carolina Panthers, where the defense dominated with four sacks, three takeaways and allowed just one touchdown. Meanwhile, the Bears offense had its best outing of the season with 36 points, where rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and receiver DJ Moore connected for two touchdowns, the offensive line was solid in pass protection and the run game continued to jell. Now, Chicago is looking to build on that momentum against Jacksonville.

Here are eight things to know ahead of the Bears’ Week 6 game against the Jaguars:

1. Bears have won their last 8 home games

Chicago has struggled on the road this season, losing to the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts. But they've been perfect at home with wins over the Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers. The Bears are currently riding an eight-game home winning streak dating back to last season, which is the longest active streak in the NFL. It's also the longest stretch since Chicago won 10 straight at home from 2005-06. While the Bears are technically the "home" team this week, they'll be "hosting" the Jaguars in London. Now we'll get a chance to see how Chicago fares at a neutral site. For what it's worth, the next Bears home game is Nov. 10.

2. Bears have won 3 of last 4 games vs. Jaguars

Chicago leads the all-time series with Jacksonville, 5-3, and they've dominated in the most recent meetings between these two clubs. The Bears have won three of the last four games against the Jaguars dating back to 2008. All three of those victories have been multi-score wins for Chicago with their most recent coming in Dec. 2020, where Mitchell Trubisky led the Bears to a 41-17 victory in Jacksonville. Chicago will be looking to make it two-in-a-row and four of the last five when they face the Jaguars in London.

3. Bears will play in London for first time since 2019

Chicago will play in their fourth London game when they face the Jaguars on Sunday morning. The Bears are 1-1 in regular season London games, with their most recent game coming in 2019, when they lost to the Las Vegas Raiders, 24-21, in the first NFL game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Roughly eight years prior, Chicago defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-18, in 2011. The Bears also beat the Dallas Cowboys, 17-6, during a preseason game in 1986. Chicago will be looking to establish a winning regular-season record across the pond.

4. The Bears defense is among the best in the NFL

Chicago's defense has been one of the most dominant in the league through the first five weeks of the season. The Bears are allowing 17.0 points per game (5th in NFL), have generated 11 takeaways (3rd), allowing 174.0 passing yards per game (6th), have totaled 14 sacks (11th), allowed just two passing touchdowns all season and is allowing an opponent average passer rating of 68.2 (1st). But the most impressive statistic has to be Chicago holding opponents to 21 points or fewer in 11 straight games, dating back to last season, which is the current longest active streak in the league.

5. The Jaguars passing defense is the worst in the NFL

The Bears passing offense exploded in last Sunday's win over the Panthers, where Caleb Williams passed for 304 yards and tossed two touchdowns to receiver DJ Moore. Now, Chicago will have an opportunity to continue that success in the passing game against a Jaguars secondary that is the worst in the NFL. Jacksonville is allowing an average 287.8 passing yards per game (32nd), nine touchdowns (32nd), zero interceptions (32nd), 73.3 completion percentage (31st), 8.2 yards per attempt (31st) and 52.6% third down conversion rate (30th).

6. Caleb Williams has been impressive in his last 10 quarters

No. 1 pick Caleb Williams has been making impressive strides with each passing game, and he's coming off his best game yet in a Week 5 win. While Williams had a three-interception outing in a losing effort to the Colts, he started to turn things around in the second half of that game and through the two ensuing contests. In the last 10 quarters, Williams has completed 70.1% of his passes with 7.9 yards per attempt, five touchdowns, one interception and a 109.8 passer rating. He's really hitting his stride, and he has an opportunity to continue that upward trajectory against a Jaguars pass defense that's the worst in the league.

7. Chicago's defense faces a tall order against Tank Bigsby

There's no denying the Bears defense has been a dominant unit through five weeks, but their Achilles heel certainly appears to be the run defense. Chicago is allowing 120.8 rushing yards per game through five games, where they've allowed 100-plus rushing yards in four of five contests. Enter second-year running back Tank Bigsby, who's coming off an impressive outing against the Indianapolis Colts, where he had 13 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns. While Travis Etienne remains the starter, the Bears defense will likely have to contend with Bigsby and need to prevent him from breaking off some long runs.

8. The Bears will be without safety Jaquan Brisker

Chicago will be without one key member of its dominant secondary with safety Jaquan Brisker being ruled out with a concussion. Brisker appeared to have suffered the injury in the first half when he laid a big hit on Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble, which forced a key turnover. While Tremble was shortly after ruled out with a concussion, Brisker remained in the game. He finished with five tackles, a pass breakup and a forced fumble. Brisker reported experiencing concussion-like symptoms on Monday, and he was diagnosed with his third concussion in the NFL. With Brisker out, head coach Matt Eberflus announced that third-year safety Elijah Hicks will get the starting nod opposite Kevin Byard III on Sunday.
