Bears have 'significant interest' in Ben Johnson for head coach

The Chicago Bears head coach search has been an eventful one in the past two weeks, but we're still no closer to the result as this process is far from over. There are a couple of reported frontrunners for the job, including Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who's been linked to Chicago for some time. And the hype continues to build.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Bears have "significant interest" in Johnson for their head coach job. Rapoport also mentioned former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy as another favorite, which tracks with what's been reported over the past week.

Johnson's work with quarterback Jared Goff has been impressive, and he could certainly help develop quarterback Caleb Williams, which will be key for the new head coach. And it sounds like Williams is excited about the potential of being coached by Johnson.

"Obviously, even watching last night (in a win vs. the Vikings) knowing kind of what they've going to be in certain situations and being able to go out there and execute and engineer," Williams said earlier this month. "...I think he's been really cool to watch. During our game, I would sit back and watch and try and learn something. It was fascinating to watch because he always, like I said, he had wrinkles for counters and things like that throughout the game. I think he's obviously done really well. It'd be cool to see how that all goes down."

Johnson is in high demand, and rightfully so given his work with the Lions offense, and it's expected to come down to Chicago and the Las Vegas Raiders (assuming Johnson is the top pick for both organizations).
