Bears sign RB Demetric Felton

The Chicago Bears have made a roster move ahead of their second week of training camp action, signing running back Demetric Felton on Sunday.

According to Adam Hoge, reserve running backs Travis Homer and Ian Wheeler were banged up during practice on Saturday, which explains the move. The Bears were given an international roster exemption for punter Tory Taylor, which means he doesn't count toward the 90-man roster. That will not apply to the 53-man roster that Chicago will finalize next month.

Felton, a former sixth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2021, has eight rushes for 20 yards and 20 receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns in 24 games between 2021-22. Felton also brings return experience to the table. He's returned 39 punts for 269 yards and 10 kickoffs for 183 yards.

D'Andre Swift, Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson lead Chicago's running back room, but Homer and Wheeler figured to be prime candidates for a good amount of preseason action. The Bears play their first preseason game this Thursday against the Houston Texans in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, so it'll be interesting to see the statuses of Homer and Wheeler heading into that contest. But it sounds like Felton could see the field.
