Bears rookie Caleb Williams has the NFL world buzzing after TD drive vs. Bengals
Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams' Soldier Field debut left a lot to be desired early on during Saturday's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The starting offense had multiple three-and-outs and could not punch the ball into the end zone. That is until the final drive before halftime, when he wowed Bears fans and NFL fans alike with his incredible playmaking.
With under two minutes left in the first half, Williams led the offense downfield for his first touchdown drive with a mix of big passing and running plays. Running back Khalil Herbert got things started with an excellent cutback run up the left sideline before Williams made his biggest pass of the day. On second down, Williams spun left and delivered a deep strike to fellow rookie Rome Odunze for a 45-yard gain down the left sideline.
The pass set the Bears up in the red zone, and after what could have been another incredible completion to Odunze had he not stepped out of bounds, Williams called his own number and scrambled into the end zone for his first touchdown as a Bear. The score gave the Bears a 10-0 lead near the end of the half. Williams finished the day 6-of-13 for 75 yards and one rushing touchdown.
Caleb. Williams.

Caleb Williams might really be THAT good.
And the Bears might have an actual QB.
This is uncharted territory for us Bears fans. pic.twitter.com/PCVA5ypxiR— Aalap Desai (@ADesai410) August 17, 2024

Throw to Rome in back of endzone was my favorite but it won’t count. But it still happened.
Credit to Eberflus to continuing to het them work. This many series was not the plan. But they NEEDED it.
This is what we’ve seen in camp. Uneven at time but spectacular during moments.— Silvy (@WaddleandSilvy) August 17, 2024
I don't care if that WR was out of bounds. That play was ridiculous too.

All the running around @CALEBcsw did, focus on his head. Always looking downfield. Always looking to throw. Heads on a gimbal. Not looking for an exit just to run like we were used to previously. Enjoy the ride #Bears fans. #DaBears pic.twitter.com/jwKSw13isP

what i'm gonna say here is pretty blasphemous but idc
that rollout left gave me aaron rodgers flashbacks. the footwork. the body control. the arm action. it was like seeing a ghost. except the ghost is your friend? this feels weird. all of it. https://t.co/GoWWTvPu4l— Funky Cold Luda (Taylor’s Version) (@lcm1986) August 17, 2024
