Bears rookie Caleb Williams continued to make history in Week 6
Another week, another record-setting performance for Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who played an important role in the team's 35-16 dominating win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Williams completed 23-of-29 passes (79%) for 226 yards with four touchdowns and one interception for a 124.4 passer rating. It's clear that the Bears have found their franchise quarterback in Williams, who continues to progress with each passing week. Against the Jaguars, he illustrated a command of the offense and executed to near perfection with some impressive throws. Does his deep ball need some work? Sure. But even with his typical rookie struggles, Williams continues to improve and is making a case for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
We're just six games into Williams' rookie season, but the No. 1 pick continues to set both franchise and NFL records with his performances. Following Week 6's dominating win over the Jaguars, here's a look at where Williams made history this week:
Williams is the first rookie quarterback selected No. 1 overall to win four of his first six career starts in the common-draft era.
Williams became the fourth rookie quarterback with at least four touchdown passes and 50 rushing yards in a game, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman (Dec. 3, 1989), Robert Griffin III (Nov. 18, 2012) and Deshaun Watson (Oct. 29, 2017).
Williams’ 79.3 completion percentage is the third-highest ever by a rookie quarterback in a game with at least four touchdown passes, trailing only Robert Griffin III (93.3 percent in Week 11, 2012) and Marcus Mariota (86.7 percent in Week 1, 2015).
Williams became the first quarterback with four touchdown passes in a game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the first rookie quarterback with multiple touchdown passes in a regular-season international game.
Williams posted a passer rating (124.4) above 100 for a third consecutive game. He's now only one of two Bears quarterbacks to do that in franchise history, joining Charlie O'Rourke.
Williams' 79.3% completion is the best ever for an NFL rookie with four touchdown passes and 25-plus passes in a game.
Williams is the 15th Bears quarterback to throw for four touchdowns in a game.
Williams is the first Bears rookie quarterback to throw three touchdowns in a game since Cade McNown in 1999.
Williams (22 y, 330 d) became the second youngest player in franchise history to throw for four or more touchdowns in a game (including postseason).
History will have to wait another week as Chicago heads into its bye week, which will allow the team to rest up and get healthy ahead of a pivotal Week 8 showdown against Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.
