Bears rookie Caleb Williams already making history in Chicago

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is just five games into his rookie season, but he's already making history in this historic franchise.

Williams is the first Bears rookie quarterback to have multiple games with 300 passing yards in the modern era.

In Week 3, Williams — in just his third NFL start — passed for 363 yards in a 21-16 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Now, two weeks later, Williams once again reached the 300-yard mark again after completing 20-of-29 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers.

This isn't a feat that has been accomplished by a Bears quarterback this quickly, and has been rare in their recent history.

The Bears' two former first-round quarterbacks played in a combined 91 games for Chicago. Of those 91 games, they combined for three total with over 300 passing yards — Mitch Trubisky had two and Justin Fields had one.

Although Trubisky had two games with over 300 passing yards, it took him until his 16th start to reach that. Williams has done it in just five. Williams is also averaging 218 passing yards a game. Trubisky averaged 230 yards in 2018 and Fields never averaged more than 200 yards.

It's been quite the turnaround for Williams and the Bears offense these last two weeks, and it's becoming clear why Williams was picked No. 1 overall.
