Jones got his coaching start at the collegiate and high school ranks before breaking into the pros with the Miami Dolphins in 2016 as their assistant defensive backs coach. Jones has primarily coached the secondary throughout his career. After two years with Miami, Jones was the cornerbacks coach for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2018-2019 and the defensive backs coach for the Vikings in 2020.
Following a brief stint with LSU in 2021, Jones returned to Minnesota as the defensive backs coach under Kevin O'Connell and became the passing game coordinator in 2023. Jones has coached Pro Bowl players such as Xavien Howard, Jesse Bates III, Harrison Smith, and Stephon Gilmore. In 2024, the Vikings defense led the NFL in interceptions with 24.
Jones joins Pleasant and former New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen as potential options to join Ben Johnson's staff.
