Bears request to interview Joe Brady for head coach
The Chicago Bears are in the middle of their search for their next head coach, where they're casting a wide net of candidates that includes some bright offensive minds that could help develop quarterback Caleb Williams.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bears have requested to interview Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady for their head coach job. While Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has been the popular pick for Chicago, Brady is certainly the dark horse when considering what he's done in Buffalo.
Brady has led a Bills offense that ranks among the top-10 in several categories, including 30.9 points per game (2nd), 359.1 yards per game (10th), 6.0 yards per play (6th), 227.9 passing yards per game (9th) and 131.2 rushing yards per game (9th). Not to mention, quarterback Josh Allen has played an MVP-caliber season, and it's exciting to think what Brady could do with Williams.
The Bears have now requested interviews with 10 assistant coaches, one current head coach, a consultant and executive: Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, Arizona Cardinals Drew Petzing, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Flores, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, former Stanford head coach David Shaw, former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and Brady. General manager Ryan Poles also confirmed Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown will get a formal interview for the permanent role.
