Bears request to interview David Blough for passing game coordinator
New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson continues to fill out his new coaching staff, which includes the recent hirings of Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator, Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator and the retention of Richard Hightower as special teams coordinator. But there are still other positions to be filled.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Bears have requested to interview Washington Commanders assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough for their passing game coordinator. The New York Jets have also requested to interview Blough for their quarterbacks coach job.
Blough, 29, is just one year into his coaching career, where he served as the Commanders' assistant quarterbacks coach and worked with Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite, Jayden Daniels. The fact that he's already receiving inquiries about moving up the coaching ranks -- as a quarterbacks coach or passing game coordinator -- speaks volumes about how he's perceived already around the league.
Blough played quarterback for five years in the NFL, which included stints with the Cleveland Browns (2019), Detroit Lions (2019-21), Minnesota Vikings (2022), Arizona Cardinals (2022) and Lions (2023). There's the obvious connection with Ben Johnson, who worked with Detroit from 2019-24, and Chicago's new head coach appears determined to add young, promising talent to his coaching staff.
