Bears QB Caleb Williams thrived in fourth quarter in 2024

Despite not having the team success he or the franchised envisioned in his first season, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams had quite the individual season.

Of all the NFL and Bears franchise records that Williams broke in his first season -- and there were many -- nothing may be more impressive than the work he did in the fourth quarter, with his team losing most of those moments throughout the season.

Looking back on Williams' season, most of his work, and success, in his rookie season came in the fourth quarter, where he would see the most attempts by quarter on the year. Of his 20 total passing touchdowns this year (a Bears rookie record), half of them came in the fourth quarter, as Williams played some of his best situational football down the stretch of games.

Per NFL Stats, Williams threw for 1,108 yards, getting 14 plays of over 20-plus yards, and a rating of 95.3 in the fourth quarter of games. The importance in the number for Williams is, even through a 10-game losing streak, having three different offensive coordinators and two head coaches, he's proven he can play big down the stretch of games and give his team a chance to win.

Whomever the team tabs as their next head coach will of course have their main priority on Williams' development, but it is very much encouraging to see him thrive in key situations in what was a lost and disappointing first season.
