What Bears QB Caleb Williams did well in Week 1 win vs. Titans

The Chicago Bears came into Week 1 with a ton of hype because of No. 1 pick quarterback Caleb Williams, who flashed potential to be a top quarterback in the NFL.

After a great preseason, Williams had a rough first regular-season start. He didn’t play very well against the Tennessee Titans. For one, it was clear that he had some first-game jitters. Second of all, he was going up against an elite Titans front four that could be the best he faces all season long. There's a lot to improve heading into Week 2.

The stats after game one aren’t pretty. He completed 14-of-29 passes for 93 yards with no touchdowns. There were some key misses by him and some key drops by his receivers. Williams did get bailed out by his defense and special teams, which made it a rare instance where a rookie No. 1 quarterback won his first career NFL start.

Despite all of the negativity, there is something to be encouraged about heading into their second game against the Houston Texans. Williams did a good job protecting the ball, not throwing an interception or fumbling. While he didn’t play great, and was far from the reason they won, he wasn’t the reason they lost.

The guy on the other side of the field, quarterback Will Levis, absolutely lost the game for the Titans. His failed attempt at avoiding a sack and throwing it away led to a game-winning pick-six for the Bears.

It's going to take some time for Williams to develop into an elite playmaking quarterback but not turning the ball over and giving the opposition free points seems to be something he’s already good at. Is Williams going to make turnover mistakes in the future? Yes. However, the fact that he hasn’t in one NFL start is a good sign. It is something to build on as the rest of his game comes into place.

Once Williams gets going -- and the offense finds its rhythm -- they can be a dangerous team with this defense and special teams.
