Bears PFF grades: Best and worst performers from Week 6 win vs. Jaguars

The Chicago Bears (4-2) defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5), 36-10, in a blowout win across the pond in Week 6. After a slow start in the first quarter, quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense went off with five touchdown drives for the second consecutive games, including four passing touchdowns from Williams. While the defense was missing some key starers in the secondary, they continued to dominate holding the Jaguars to just 16 points -- the 12th consecutive game where they've held an opponent to 21 points or fewer.

Pro Football Focus has handed out player grades for those who took a snap in Chicago’s win against Jacksonville, and we broke them down by offense and defense, analyzing the three highest- and lowest-graded players on each side, as well as some other notable performers.

There were a few surprises — and then some not surprises — in terms of the highest- and lowest-graded players, both on offense and defense. Here’s a look:

Top 3 offense

  • QB Caleb Williams - 87.9

  • RT Darnell Wright - 78.2

  • WR Keenan Allen - 77.2

Williams had his best outing of his young career against the Jaguars, completing 79.3% of his passes (23-of-29) for 226 yards with four touchdowns and one interception for a 126.6 passer rating. He added four carries for 56 yards. Williams earned impressive marks in passing (87.9) and rushing (76.2). Wright was the team's highest-graded offensive lineman earning an impressive mark in run blocking (85.6) and was solid in pass protection (63.7). Allen had his best game with Chicago, hauling in five catches for 41 yards and two touchdowns. He earned an impressive 76.7 mark in passing.

Bottom 3 offense

  • TE Gerald Everett - 52.2

  • RB Roschon Johnson - 53.9

  • TE Marcedes Lewis - 56.7

Two of the lowest graded players on offense were tight ends. Everett had zero catches on one target, earning low marks in passing (51.6) and run blocking (57.0). Lewis, going against his former team, caught one pass for two yards. He earned a low mark in passing (54.1) and so-so mark in run blocking (60.3). Meanwhile, Johnson continued his role as RB2 behind D'Andre Swift. He had just five carries for eight yards and averaged 1.7 yards per carry and had two catches for 25 yards. Johnson was solid in passing (71.2) and pass blocking (74.2) but he earned a low mark in rushing (45.8).

Top 3 defense

  • S Kevin Byard - 85.3

  • DE Montez Sweat - 81.5

  • LB Amen Ogbongbemiga - 78.7

Byard had another dominant outing for Chicago's defense and was the highest-graded defender. He had seven tackles and one pass breakup, and he had high marks across the board in tackling (87.7), coverage (79.4) and run defense (69.3). Sweat continues to be a dominant force off the edge and was the second-highest-graded defender. He totaled two tackles, 0.5 sack and one QB hit, earning solid marks in pass rush (74.2), tackling (71.7) and run defense (71.6). Meanwhile, Ogbongbemiga was another standout in his limited action. He had one tackle for loss, one sack and one QB hit, which earned him high marks in pass rush (75.4) and tackling (73.3).

Bottom 3 defense

  • DT Andrew Billings - 38.0

  • LB Tremaine Edmunds - 54.5

  • DT Byron Cowart - 56.3

Billings is key to the defense's success, and he's usually a stout run defender. But his struggles against the run (34.0) contributed to him being the lowest-graded defender. Billings, who had one tackle, did grade out well in tackling (66.8). Edmunds totaled six tackles and had a key pass breakup, where he thrived as a tackler (80.7) and against the run (73.8). But he struggled in coverage (47.0) and as a pass rusher (54.1). Cowart rounded out the bottom three on defense. He had two tackles and 0.5 sack, earning a solid mark in tackling (69.1), but he was marked down against the run (56.2) and pass rush (58.5).

Other notables

  • TE Cole Kmet - 74.9

  • LG Teven Jenkins - 76.0

  • S Elijah Hicks - 78.1

  • LB T.J. Edwards - 70.5

Kmet was the Bears' most versatile player in Sunday's win, playing tight end and stepping in as emergency long snapper for the injured Scott Daly. Kmet led the offense with 70 yards on five catches and two second-quarter touchdowns. He also had six perfect snaps in place of Daly. Kmet was the fifth highest-graded player on offense earning strong marks in passing (73.8), pass blocking (72.5) and run blocking (63.1). Meanwhile, Jenkins was the fourth highest-graded offensive player and had his best game of the season. He earned high marks in pass protection (83.2) and run blocking (69.6).

Hicks filled the big shoes of Jaquan Brisker, who didn't make the trip to London after suffering a concussion, and the former seventh rounder came up big in the start. He had five tackles, one pass breakup and recovered a fumble early in the second half that flipped the momentum. Hicks earned high marks across the board in tackling (81.6), coverage (73.7) and run defense (65.0). Meanwhile, Edwards is the one who forced that fumble in the second half that led to a Chicago touchdown. He added seven tackles and a pass breakup, earning strong marks in coverage (70.7) and against the run (70.1). Although, Edwards was marked down in tackling (59.5) and pass rush (49.4).
