Bears to interview Todd Monken for head coach on Friday
The Chicago Bears are conducting their search for a new head coach, which has spanned 20 candidates with various backgrounds -- from former head coaches to rising coordinators to college coaches.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken will interview for the Bears head coach job on Friday. Monken is interviewing with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.
Monken, who hails from the Chicagoland area, boasts over 30 years of experience at the NFL and collegiate levels. Monken has served as offensive coordinator with four different teams -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-18), Cleveland Browns (2019), Georgia Bulldogs (2020-22) and now Ravens (2023-present). He also served as head coach for Southern Miss (2013-15).
Monken, 58, has made an impression due to his work with MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, who's on track to repeat as MVP this year. The Ravens have gone 25-9 since Monken joined the team. Monken also received head coach interest last offseason having interviewed with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers.
Chicago has completed interviews with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, former Carolina Panthers/Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera, former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, former Stanford head coach David Shaw, Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.
The Bears also have an interview scheduled with Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores on Saturday.
