Bears will interview Giants OC Mike Kafka for head coach on Thursday

The Chicago Bears are in the thick of their search for the team's next head coach and have made their plans to interview one of the league's young offensive minds. According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Bears are set to interview New York Giants offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Mike Kafka for their head coaching vacancy on Thursday. Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll will also interview with the Bears on Thursday.

Kafka is a native of Chicago who knows the area quite well. He played high school football at St. Rita's and college ball at Northwestern as a quarterback. Following a career as a backup that lasted six years, Kafka joined the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff under Andy Reid in 2017. He began as a quality control coach and worked his way up to being the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for Patrick Mahomes and the dynamic Chiefs offense through the 2021 season.

In 2022, Kafka was hired by the Giants as the offensive coordinator for Brian Daboll, where he helped New York get back to the postseason for the first time since 2016. In 2024, Kafka was promoted to assistant head coach. Kafka also has an interview with the New Orleans Saints on the same day for their vacant head coaching job.
