Bears to interview Aaron Glenn for head coach on Saturday

The Chicago Bears are in the thick of their head coach search, where they've cast a wide net that's included 14 candidates. They've requested interviews with everyone from former head coaches to rising coordinators, including both coordinators from the Detroit Lions.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Bears will interview Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn for their head coach job on Saturday. It's a busy week for Glenn, considered a top candidate, who will also interview with the New York Jets (Thursday), New Orleans Saints (Friday) and Jacksonville Jaguars (Saturday).

Glenn got his starts as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Cleveland Browns (2014-15) before serving as the defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints (2016-20). Glenn made the jump to defensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions in 2021, where he's served since.

Meanwhile, Glenn certainly fits that "leader of men" mentality that has been overused when describing what the Bears are looking for. He leads a dominant Lions defense that has remained a top unit despite being ravaged by injuries.

The Bears have requested interviews with 14 candidates, which includes assistant coaches, a current head coach, and former head coaches: Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Glenn, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, Arizona Cardinals Drew Petzing, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Flores, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, former Stanford head coach David Shaw, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. General manager Ryan Poles also confirmed Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown will get a formal interview for the permanent role.
