Bears GM Ryan Poles doesn't rule out trading for a current head coach

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles met with the media on Tuesday for nearly 30 minutes, answering a long list of questions following the conclusion of the 2024 regular season.

The biggest question that Poles could answer, one that will be the focus of this offseason, regards the search for the Bears' next head coach. There has already been a long list of reported names, from potential first-time head coaches to former head coaches to offensive and defensive coordinators expected to interview for the job.

Poles was asked whether the team would explore giving up draft capital to trade for a current head coach, and he didn't exactly rule it out.

"We’ll look at all avenues to get the best coach here," Poles said.

There is relevancy to this statement from Poles, as the Bears were discussed in early rumors about potentially being intrigued by San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. There was also a report ahead of the Week 18 finale that Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell could be a trade target for teams looking for a coach.

There's been no direct link from the Bears to either coach, but the fact that Poles said the team would look at all avenues, means there's even more intrigue to an already wide net search for the team's next head coach.
