Bears fans are fed up with Matt Eberflus after brutal loss vs. Commanders
The Chicago Bears suffered a heartbreaking defeat to the Washington Commanders, 18-15, where a last-second Hail Mary touchdown set the stage for one of the worst losses in franchise history.
With Chicago coming off a bye week, the expectation is they'd be prepared to face this Washington squad -- especially after having two weeks to get ready. But, for the third time under Eberflus, the team was unprepared and sloppy coming off the bye week, where they're now 0-3 under Eberflus.
Jayden Daniels' improbable Hail Mary touchdown -- and the overall handling of that final drive by Eberflus -- was a gut punch to Bears fans.
“When you lose a game like that, that’s a tough one to swallow,” Eberflus said postgame, although he stuck to moral victories in his postgame presser, where he brought a positive light to a brutal loss.
“I think it’s having a strong mind and a strong conviction of who you are,” Eberflus said. “This is one game, right? I know when you lose on the last play, it’s going to hurt, right? But let’s go back and look at the tape and then get better from this. That’s what we always do. That’s what we’re going to do here.”
With Eberflus failing to take accountability -- again -- and another gut wrenching, avoidable loss to add to his collection, Bears fans made it clear that their patience with Eberflus is wearing thin -- and some are even calling for his job.
Bears fans are fed up with Matt Eberflus after latest loss
I’ve said this again and again: Eberflus should’ve been fired after last season.
There are consequences to keeping incompetence: it breeds more incompetence. That incompetent HC goes on to hire an incompetent OC, and now we have TWO problems AND no O-line.
But he’s a nice guy.— Flo Ottis (@flo_ottis) October 28, 2024
The lack of accountability from Eberflus will always annoy me.
The blame is always pushed onto the execution and the players instead of the coaching making bonehead decisions.— Irish Bears Network (@IrishBearsShow) October 28, 2024
The only times Matt Eberflus’ Bears have been the more prepared team have been against bottom-of-the-barrel operations. Panthers, Doug Pederson Jaguars, Arthur Smith Falcons etc
Every time they class up, they look like no one has a clue what’s happening

The time for “the #Bears played close against a good team, that bodes well for the future” is over.
This team is built to be a playoff contender NOW. There are zero moral victories you get from these losses anymore. It’s put up or shut up time, especially for Matt Eberflus.— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) October 28, 2024
When George McCaskey fired Matt Nagy he said something like, "we were making the same mistakes at the end of the season that we were at the beginning." He might feel the same way about Matt Eberflus' 41 game coaching career in Chicago.

Coach Eberflus
- Why are you rushing three
- Why is there a spy backer with no threat of QB run
- Why is 98 standing on the sideline
- Why— Joe Musso (@MooseOnAir) October 28, 2024
Can we just demote Matt Eberflus to DC? Because he’s in way over his head as a HC.

If the two things we learn about the Bears this year is that Caleb Williams is good and Matt Eberflus isn’t, then so be it.
Rubber gotta meet the road with this head coach.— Funky Cold Luda (Taylor’s Version) (@lcm1986) October 27, 2024
This was my Matt Eberflus needs to be fired moment. This happens at least twice a year where he calls the zone way too deep in late game situation and lets them throw 20 yard out routes until they get in field goal range. The team comes unprepared every game. Why was there no one…

Caleb Williams played like shit for three quarters and then led not one, but two game-winning TD drives in the fourth quarter on the road. Both were stolen from him by terrible coaching decisions.
I have more faith in him through half a rookie season than I’ve had in three years…— Tom Fornelli (@TomFornelli) October 28, 2024
That game was enough to fire Matt Eberflus and Shane Waldron.
Sickening.— Caleb Williams Fan Club (@CalebFC18) October 27, 2024
If the Bears don’t take a massive step and start beating good teams.
Fire Matt Eberflus.
Make Waldron the interim head coach.
(Just to give Caleb Williams consistency to finish out the year)
Let Eric Washington call defensive plays and see how he does with his audition.
If…— Max Markham (@MaxMarkhamNFL) October 28, 2024
to recap, after a heroic effort from his defense and gutsy finish by his QB, matt eberflus:
-- let WAS have a free 15 yards
-- had a qb spy on a hail mary
-- didn't put more tall players on the field
-- kept all 3 timeouts instead of preaching key principles (no one behind)— robert (@RobertZeglinski) October 28, 2024
Matt Eberflus always has a game that reminds me why I don't like him and want him to be fired
