Bears fans can't believe Cairo Santos' field goal was blocked again
The Chicago Bears might have a kicker problem, and their rival Green Bay Packers might've given teams the blueprint.
For the second time in as many weeks, kicker Cairo Santos had a 48-plus yard field goal attempt blocked -- and it was nearly identical to the previous week after Santos' game-winning 46-yard attempt was blocked by the Packers.
Santos has had three missed field goals this season, all coming between 40 and 49 yards. According to ESPN Stats and Info, the Bears have had three field goals blocked this season, which is the most in the NFL and their most in a single season since 2012 (3).
As you can imagine, there was plenty of disbelief and shock that the Bears didn't make any necessary adjustments following last week's heartbreaker where Santos' 46-yard field goal attempt, which would've won the game, was blocked. While this one didn't have the same implications, it remains an issue moving forward as Santos' last two field goal attempts from long-40 range have been blocked.
UPDATE: Santos connected on a 49-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to break his blocked streak.

We might need to start having a Cairo Santos conversation
Dude is automatic from short range, but the low trajectory on these long kicks is unacceptable. Man's leg is subpar at best— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) November 24, 2024
Clearly there’s something to Chicago’s kicking mechanics that other teams have now picked up on..

Again, near 50 yard FG, wind is going, angle will be more narrow...you only needed 4 yards and you're in Viking territory. Why not go for it?

Not against. How do you let that happen again?! He blocked that with his wrist not even close. #DaBears #Bears

Left hash, right hash, doesn’t matter. Cairo doesn’t have enough leg for anything past 45. Jesus.

Block came near the C gap, wasn't even deep pressure, just a super low angle kick that made it easier to block

I love how accurate Cairo Santos is, but I think he needs to go if he cannot fix his trajectory. #DaBears

Word is out on the Cairo trajectory, and the Bears FG blocking?
Might need a big footed new kicker next year….— Spiegel & Holmes (@SpiegsAndHolmes) November 24, 2024
Santos has now been blocked three times when kicking from 40+ range (jags, packers, and vikings have all gotten him)

In all seriousness, the Packers saw a weakness in the middle of the line on the Bears field goal team. Exploiting it led to last week's block. And this block came from right down Main Street too. https://t.co/4vRlfflqn7

How on earth do you let it happen again. Smh

Flus taking the field goal in plus territory is infuriating. He doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body.

Cario Santos not having a big leg is killing the Bears.
He's very accurate but does not have an NFL caliber leg.— Dave (@dave_bfr) November 24, 2024
Cairo Santos has made nearly 300 XP & 234 FG before having his last two kicks blocked
not a Cairo issue
This is opposing teams noticing a flaw in the FG blocking they can exploit.
A flaw the internal scouting didn’t find & Flus & co didn’t fix after the GB game

Cairo Santos reached a thousand points for the Bears, and then suddenly forgot how to kick.

I like Cairo Santos a lot but a move has to be made there if the book is out on him like this.
— Payton J. Havermann (@paytonisnotroll) November 24, 2024
so the right hash wasnt the problem for cairo santos

I make fun of alarmists all the time, but if Cairo santos is the K next year, #dabears will lose more games on kicks. Doesn’t have the leg = low trajectory = easier to block

There was a time you could depend on Cairo Santos field goals.
