Bears' DJ Moore rips former coach Matt Eberflus for not calling timeout vs Lions
In the closing moments of what would be his final game as head coach for the Chicago Bears, Matt Eberflus displayed extreme coaching malpractice.
On Thanksgiving day, in front of a national audience, as the Bears offense struggled to get gathered back together following a six-yard sack taken by Caleb Williams, the game clock was winding down and Eberflus declined to use the team's final timeout, and chaos followed with the Bears looking out of sorts and having to watch a desperation heave end their comeback bid.
The following day, the Bear made franchise history by firing a head coach for the first time during a season, relieving Eberflus of his duties before his third full season completed. Reflecting back on what would be his coach's final play and decision, Bears wide receiver DJ Moore was, like many, confused as to why a timeout wasn't called.
Appearing on 670 the Score's "Mully and Haugh Show" on Monday, Moore had plenty to say about his former head coach, saying that it is the responsibility of the coach to help regroup the offense when scrambling as they were.
"We could've just taken the timeout and regrouped, and gotten two plays off if that was the case," Moore said. "...My view, I feel like the coach has got to call a timeout and regroup us."
Many of the players seem to have soured on Eberflus as time wound down on his time in Chicago. The final play in Detroit was not only embarrassing, but mind blowing, and it ultimately would spell doom for Eberflus who ends his tenure in Chicago with just 14 wins in under three season.
