Bears' DJ Moore evaluates Caleb Williams' rookie debut

Caleb Williams broke a 22-year losing streak for No. 1 rookie quarterbacks in Week 1 starts as the Chicago Bears defeated the Tennessee Titans, 24-17, Sunday at Soldier Field.

Although, Williams owes Chicago's defense and special teams a big thank you, after they picked up the slack as the offense struggled to find a rhythm throughout the game. Williams had a rocky debut, completing 14-of-29 passes for 93 yards with zero touchdowns and zero turnovers.

Williams appeared to have a bit of nerves in his first start, as he had some misses he'd certainly want back, but he also wasn't helped by a porous interior offensive line and some drops by receivers. While Williams was bad in his first start, it's not cause for concern, especially as you look at how the other rookie quarterbacks fared in Week 1.

There are always going to be growing pains with a rookie quarterback, which receiver DJ Moore understands. Moore shared his thoughts on Williams' first start, where he knows Williams will get better and this offense will bounce back.

“It’s the first real live action, four-quarter football for him,” Moore told 670 the Score. “So I think he handled it well. He knows that there were a bunch of plays that could’ve been made, but at the same time, we got the win at the end of the day. We’re just going to go back on offense and look at every position group and see what everyone could’ve done better.”

Chicago's offense needs to improve after amassing just 148 total yards. They struggled both through the air and on the ground, which isn't a recipe for success. But when you have a top defense and productive special teams to lean on, it certainly helps. Still, Moore believes this team will be very special when all three phases start clicking.

“When all three phases can hold it down as one, it’s going to be a good, good season,” Moore said. “When one of the sides don’t, we just got to pick them up.”
