Bears DC Eric Washington believes Daniel Hardy has been a standout

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for their preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs, where there are a number of bubble players looking to earn a roster spot. That includes defensive end Daniel Hardy, who's been a standout performer during the preseason.

In three games, Hardy has totaled 10 tackles, including five tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and five QB hits. He's made his presence known getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks, which is something that has stood out to defensive coordinator Eric Washington, who praised Hardy's performance this summer.

"It has really stood out as far as what we're asking that position to do," Washington said "...I don't know anybody who's stood out as much as he has."

When looking at the Bears defense, the biggest weakness is the defensive line, which also provides an opening for Hardy to make the cut. Montez Sweat is the only proven commodity off the edge, while DeMarcus Walker and rookie Austin Booker have potential to be impact players opposite him.

General manager Ryan Poles recently attempted to trade for edge rusher Matthew Judon, an indication that Chicago might not be done adding at the position this summer. But, at this point, it feels like Hardy is a safe bet to make the initial 53-man roster.
