Bears complete head coach interview with Pete Carroll
The Chicago Bears have completed an interview with former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll for their head coach vacancy, the team announced on Thursday afternoon. The Bears conducted a virtual interview with Carroll, despite having the opportunity to meet with him in person since he is not currently on any NFL coaching staff. All first-round interviews will take place virtually, as reported by The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
Weaver was interviewed by a committee that included general manager Ryan Poles, president and CEO Kevin Warren, chairman George McCaskey, senior director of player personnel Jeff King, executive vice president of people and culture & chief human resources officer Liz Geist, and director of football administration Matt Feinstein.

Carroll has been coaching football since the early 1970s, and despite being 73 years old, he still has the energy and drive to keep on going. From 2010 to 2023, Carroll was the head coach of the Seahawks, compiling a record of 137-89-1. His Seahawks teams were perennial playoff contenders, reaching the postseason 10 times in 14 years. Carroll won 10 playoff games and won Super Bowl XLVIII behind the "Legion of Boom" and quarterback Russell Wilson.
Prior to Seattle, Carroll was the head coach at USC from 2001 to 2009, winning the 2005 BCS Championship and winning the 2003 and 2004 Associated Press Championships. Carroll also coached the New England Patriots (1997-1999) and New York Jets (1990-1993) in addition to several other coordinator roles.
Chicago has upcoming interviews with New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka (Thursday, Jan. 9), Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson (Saturday, Jan. 11), and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn (Saturday, Jan. 11).
