Bears complete head coach interview with Anthony Weaver

The Chicago Bears have completed an interview with Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver for their head coach vacancy, the team announced Thursday. The Bears conducted a virtual interview with Weaver, despite having the chance to bring him to Halas Hall for an in-person meeting. They will conduct all virtual meetings in the first round, as reported by Dianna Russini.

Weaver was interviewed by a committee that included general manager Ryan Poles, president and CEO Kevin Warren, chairman George McCaskey, senior director of player personnel Jeff King, executive vice president of people and culture & chief human resources officer Liz Geist, and director of football administration Matt Feinstein.

Weaver started as a defensive line coach with the Buffalo Bills (2013), Cleveland Browns (2014-15) and Houston Texans (2016-19) before he was promoted to defensive coordinator in Houston in 2020. Weaver then landed with the Baltimore Ravens, where he served as defensive line coach & run game coordinator (2021) before being promoted to assistant head coach (2022-23). He was hired as the Dolphins defensive coordinator in 2024, where he's led a top-five unit.

This isn't the first time Weaver has been considered for a head coach job. He interviewed for the Washington Commanders opening last year and was a finalist before Dan Quinn got the gig.

Chicago has upcoming interviews with New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka (Thursday, Jan. 9), former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll (Thursday, Jan. 9), Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson (Saturday, Jan. 11), and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn (Saturday, Jan. 11).
