Bears complete head coach interview with David Shaw
The Chicago Bears have completed an interview with Denver Broncos front office executive and former Stanford coach David Shaw for their head coach vacancy, the team announced on Tuesday evening. It is not known if this interview took place in person or virtually.
Shaw was interviewed by a committee that included general manager Ryan Poles, president and CEO Kevin Warren, chairman George McCaskey, senior director of player personnel Jeff King, executive vice president of people and culture & chief human resources officer Liz Geist, and director of football administration Matt Feinstein.

Shaw is currently the senior personnel executive for the Broncos, but he's a long-time coach at the collegiate level. He succeeded Jim Harbaugh at Stanford when he went to the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 and had sustained success for the better part of the 2010s. Shaw compiled a record of 96-54 from 2011-2022, including four double-digit win seasons, and earned a bowl game eight seasons in a row from 2011-2018.
While at Stanford, Shaw coached numerous star players that made an impact at the NFL level, most notably quarterback Andrew Luck, running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end Zack Ertz, tackle Andrus Peat, tight end Austin Hooper, and linebacker Blake Martinez. Shaw resigned as head coach following Stanford's final game in 2022 and joined the Broncos front office for the 2024 season.
Shaw is the latest candidate to complete a head coach interview with the Bears, who have a list of 20 candidates. Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is expected to interview in person on Wednesday.
