Bears have chance to ignite a winning streak over next 3 weeks

After two weeks, the Chicago Bears are 1-1. Their offense hasn't clicked yet, but the defense looks dominant. It's a storyline as old as time, but there is plenty of football left for this team to get it turned around on the offensive side of the ball.

Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams is only two starts in and has shown flashes, but he is running for his life on every play. Once they get their offensive line figured out, he might be able to properly develop.

After playing two very good defensive fronts in the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans, the Bears may be getting a little bit of a break in the coming weeks. Let's be clear, there are no easy games in the NFL. However, some things may be in line to favor Chicago, and it starts with this Sunday's match against the 0-2 Indianapolis Colts.

They have some injuries to report on when it comes to their defensive line. For one, they will already be missing DeForest Buckner, who is on injured reserve with an ankle injury. They may also be missing rookie defensive end Laitu Latu, who hasn't practiced through Thursday. That would be a huge loss for them, as well, as those two guys are great at creating pressure on opposing quarterbacks. This is a chance for the Bears to see their offensive line improve, which could be the key to Williams putting up big numbers with the offense.

If they can get past the Colts with a 2-1 record, Chicago will be in a good position. After that, they will play the Los Angeles Rams, who remain winless through two weeks after dealing with a multitude of injuries. That includes most notably their top receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. Having these two great weapons taken from Matthew Stafford, who is already dealing with an injury-battered offensive line, is a big loss.

The Rams also don't have Aaron Donald, who retired this offseason, so the offensive line has one less star pass rusher to worry about. Because Los Angeles has Stafford, they will always command respect, but the Bears could be catching them at a favorable time.

In Week 5, the Bears will host the Carolina Panthers, who might be the worst team in the league for the second year in a row. Of course, they are the reason the Bears were able to select Williams with the No. 1 pick this offseason. So far, they are 0-2 and have been outscored 73-13.

Carolina also benched their 2023 No. 1 pick Bryce Young in favor of Andy Dalton. Young's future in Carolina is now being debated. The Bears need to win this game no matter what happens between now and then if they have any hope of being a playoff team this year. It caps off a three-week stretch that favors Chicago, who needs to get in a rhythm of winning and good play.

You can even look beyond these three weeks and see some light for the Bears. They have the Washington Commanders (1-1) and Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) right after. That means their next five opponents are a combined 1-7, which is as much of a schedule break as you can ask for in the NFL. There are no excuses.
