Bears' Caleb Williams teases 'explosive' connection with Rome Odunze

Chicago Bears rookies Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze stole the show in Saturday's preseason win against the Cincinnati Bengals, where their connection was on display and left fans eager for more.

While it took the offense a few drives to get going, once they did, Williams put on another show with his insane playmaking and improvisation ability. But the one play fans can't get enough of is Williams connecting with Odunze for a 45-yard completion down the left sideline, which set up a seven-yard touchdown run by Williams.

Williams and Odunze nearly connected on a touchdown on the ensuing play after their big connection, where Williams rolled right and eluded a defender before throwing, on the run, a dart to Odunze in the back of the end zone. But, unfortunately, Odunze was standing out of bounds. While it was a small sample size, it was only the beginning of what Williams believes will be a special connection in Chicago.

"We're going to be explosive," Williams said after Saturday's game. "We're two rooks, but we're trying to catch up to the old guys as fast as we can to make sure that we're right there on par with them to be able to be efficient, function, go out there and be explosive, be on the same page and win games.

"That's ultimately what we're here to do. And having a guy like that that was drafted with me, we're only going to keep growing and keep building this connection."

Williams will have no shortage of weapons at his disposal during his rookie season, outside of just Odunze. That includes veteran wideouts DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, tight ends Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett and running back D'Andre Swift. But all eyes will remain on the duo of Williams and Odunze, who could be the face of the franchise for a long time.
